Gearing up for FOOTBALL…..W P S

started my love for the sport. After moving to Arkansas, I was in the High School Marching Band in the flag corps so Friday night football was a way of life! After high school, I moved on and attended the University of Arkansas and so came my love for the RAZORBACKS!!!! WOOOO PIG SOOOOOIE. I’ve always loved the traditional Razorback but lately I’ve come to love this motif even more!! I love the funky letters and the Hog face becoming the O! I hand painted this ornament.

First I prepped the Ornament by coating the inside with Glitter. I used the technique found here:

This is a 4″ glass craft ornament, so he’s good sized. I used the Glitter- It! Product simply because I had it on hand. I also use an extremely fine glitter when I am going to hand paint so that the sparkles don’t take away from what I’m putting on the outside. Next for the painting. I used a combination of brush and paint pen. I started the design just like I would a drawing and drew in an outline with a sharpie. Once I got it the way I wanted I traced over the lines with a black paint pen. Don’t worry if you mess up….even a 100 times….just grab some acetone, clean it off and start again. My next step was to fill in all the Red and White. Next, I focused on the Hog face and getting his details correct. I added in the eyes, fixed the ears and his snout and tusks. I used mostly paint pen here. After I got the face just like I wanted it I went back and went over my black lines again across the entire motif. The last step was adding in the white highlights. Now, I didn’t do this all in one sitting. It is important to let the paint dry well before trying to put on more layers, otherwise the paint pen just scrapes of the layer underneath. Be patient and wait for things to dry! I’ve forgotten how much I enjoyed this activity and how cute he turned out. Maybe this year I’ll focus on some hand painted ornaments…stay tuned!

Football Season is Back Again

Being from the south, football is in our blood.  So as this season started, another Razorback wreath was requested.  I already had a burlap wreath created and hanging on the back of the craft room door.   Earlier in the year, I bought some wide burlap ribbon with Red Chevron printed on it for a wedding shower gift.  That, combined with the ready made wreath, craps of ribbon from my ribbon box and some small chipboard letters and some paint — Here’s my 2014 Razorback Wreath

Razorback Earflap Hat

Here is my first attempt at a cutesy hat — I went with the Razorback using buttons for embellishments and additional texture.

I’ve seen several different styles of Razorback hats and even have one for my son that my girl Katie made.

Here is the 2 Little Red Birds style Razorback earflap hat.

I love the way the buttons really add to the look.

I just used a basic earflap pattern (free)!!

Pigs = Hogs = Razorbacks

Since football season starts tomorrow for my beloved Hogs I thought I’d share with you a couple of the amigurumi Hogs I’ve made.

Now you really can’t find patterns for Razorbacks, BUT you can find lots and lots and lots of different styles of pigs.  So what did I do???? I transformed them into ARKANSAS  Razorbacks!!!

I love his fat little body and his short stubby legs

.  I added the tusks and for my friend Stephanie and sewed a little white rose on his butt to symbolize the sisterhood that we share!

Next I went BIG….well actually little.  I’m fascinated by how small people make things.  So I transformed this micro pig.

Now mine is not as small as hers as I used #5 Pearl cotton — but he IS little.

 I LOVE him.  I think he’s one of my favorites of all time!

Let’s Get Ready for FOOTBALL!!!

Tonight I’ve been working on my Razorback gear for the upcoming season since it starts on SATURDAY!!  WOOOOOO PIG SOOOOIE.

More Cameo Applique — Ties!!!

 

Tonight I had so much from with my friend M.  She bought the cutest material for her little boy and we made these CUTE shirts for fall!!  I found some clipart on the web and created the pattern with my Silhouette Studio software.

When I first got my Cameo I had NO idea it could do so many things and that I didn’t have to BUY every graphic I wanted to cut out.  I did some searches on some forums and on YouTube and I found this video that set me on my way to making my own graphics for my library:

Razorback Bathroom

My brother and sister-in-law just bought this amazing new house!  They have 3 boys so they wanted to do something “BOY” in the main bathroom, so M suggested Arkansas Razorbacks.  Now M has awesome taste in paint colors and picked out this amazing gray color.  While we were at Home Depot buying paint, I found a painters drop cloth that really went well with the paint color and it was only $5.00.  It was the PERFECT size for a shower curtain.  I immediately had a vision and offered to make a shower curtain for them.  I was first going to applique a large red and white chevron hog in the middle of the curtain, but when I pinned it all up on my wall of my craft room — it just wasn’t right.  After looking at it for about 48 hours, I decided to put the big black grommets in and take a stab at free-hand paiting a Hog.  What the heck right, if it sucked I was only out $5.00.

I LOVE the way the Hog turned out.  I used regular acrylic paints in which I mixed a fabric paint medium.  Basically it made it fabric paint.  I drew out the basic outline of the Hog — but from there it was pretty much free-hand all the way.  When we hung the curtain though, it was too short…..good thing I already had that awesome Red and White Chevron material on hand.  It made a perfect accent to the shower curtain and I could make it just long enough.  Sister-in-law bought some great black grommet topped curtain panels to accent the shower curtain and I used some left-over chevron to make the tie backs.  Here is the final product.

(Note:  It still needs to be steamed to get the wrinkles out, but we just hung it up)

Have I mentioned yet how much I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Silhouette Cameo???  Well I do, I love it almost as much as my Ipod and my Ipad!  Ih have had so much fun making various things, fabric appliques, invitations, about a million vinyl projects.

So here is the Fight Song that I made for the bathroom as well.  I think it looks GREAT agains the Gray walls.  I love buying cheap picture frames and taking the backs off to make great wall hangings.

I can’t wait to make another one of these…….using the different fonts was so much fun!
